Upon An Oaken Throne: Sir Borscht's Letter
The Smith's campaign has drawn to a close, but where does that leave our warriors? Having formed a covenant and recruited new members, our characters are in an uncertain place in the fight against Zhentil Keep. Sir Borscht of Daggerdale sent a letter out late one night at the Harvest Tournament, while sitting up with the Jester he'd injured so seriously.
Dearest Violencia,
I hope this letter finds you well. Please forgive my messenger, as his injuries prevent him from speaking too well - but I hope the inclusion of the locket proves he is my proxy.
I shall not return to Daggerdale for some time. The leadership of the Dalelands cannot be trusted to those currently in power, though perhaps Lord Morn would commit more forces to open battle if certain events were to come to pass. The horrors the Zhentarim continually effect upon our people can no longer go unpursued, unpunished - and I can no longer sit idly by and do only what is ordered of me.
I have seen horrors beyond imagining, and the terror that shall engulf the Dales should nothing be done to stop it will consume all I know and love. To that end, with my closest companions I have made a sacred covenant - we will do all we can to destroy the Zhentarim once and for all! A daunting task, I know - but I believe those I travel with have the best chance in all the world, for determination and resolve know no equal.
We are called the Knights of the Red Storm - a storm of blood for all Zhents! Our Crimson Covenant grows stronger, and our banner will attact more and more of the dispossessed and downtrodden to it's banner as it is raised over the face Abeir-Toril.
Would that I could return to you when I said I would, but for now you must remain safe in Daggerdale. You may not hear from me for some time - but I will not perish, nor waver in my conviction.
I will keep you safe, no matter the cost.

The Smith's Adventure Logs - Palladium in the Dales (5)
![]() |
| Black Frank |
Adventure 6: Blood of Heroes
Welcome back to Forgotten Realms! This is Smith with your weekly highlights from our Palladium FRPG. Our first chapter of the Upon an Oaken Throne story has come to an end. The party stopped to investigate some fabled ruins while in Mistledale.
Investigating a strange rumor, they found the wreckage of a floating castle - strange creatures and devices not known to this world lurked within. It wasn't long before the situation got out of hand, and before leaving the ruins the party managed to set off an ancient alarm and release four thunder orbs. They were able to escape, however.
Next our group took time to check out the sites of Ashbenford, the capital of Mistledale. Our heroes favorite spot seemed to be an famous leathercrafter who fashioned some high quality leather armor for the group and a certain Chocobo who remains nameless.
After returning to Daggerdale, a feast is prepared in thier honor at the Inn. The Zhentarim sent a Shadow Mage and 6 Assassins to eliminate our heroes and Randal Morn in one fell swoop! Among the Assassins was Francis Black, the party's former scout!
The party was able to arrest Francis, the shadowmage and 2 of the assassins. As our next adventure begins the party is sent on another mission - this time as emmasaries to Cormyr!
Please join us 6/19/11 at 6:00 P.M. at The Wargate for some Adventure and old fashioned Beans and Cornbread. We will also be serving Chicken Chili. See you Sunday!
Beans! Chili! There will probably even be a rack of ribs from Big Matt!! Roll on out on Sunday and find out what happened to Black Frank, Blackfeets, and all the other hooligans from Daggerdale! Also, be prepared for Warmachine and Warhammer 40,000 games during the day, so get there early for face-melting fun!

The Smith's Palladium Log (4)
![]() |
| There will be a reckoning on the day of the armored chickens. |
The Smith has been keeping us updated on his Palladium game, with weekly updates to remind us what's happening in our world here! He's back this week with more news from the Dales...
Hello, This is Smith with your Palladium FRPG Update!
After an uneasy alliance with LeBrac (an Elven Pirate Captain), the party set out for Daggerdale to report to Randall Morn about the events that transpired in Scarsdale and request a dignitary to return and keep the peace. As the Heroes make thier way through Battledale they are ambushed by thier old friends the Warkingz Orc Tribe.
It would have been the death of them had it not been for an unexpected ally. The Snakebite Orc tribe showed up and was able to turn the tide of the battle. Blackfeet was knocked out by one of the Warkings but Bob E. Light was able to stabalize him while Sigmund risked his life to cover Bob and Blackfeet while he was healed. After escaping the Warkingz, the group makes it to Essembra the capital of Battledale.
We had a short adventure last week due to various schedule differences. This week let's keep focused and try to finish last weeks adventure and make it through this weeks also. If we stay on track and fight hard we can do it.
Thank you to the Wargate and all our adventurers.
This week I am keeping it simple. I will be grilling hamburgers and bringing some buns and fixings. Hope everyone can make it for another adventure in the Upon an Oaken Throne series of Palladium FRPG.
Fantastic updates from the Smith, we appreciate your contributions to the Wargate!! The game is rollicking along, with plenty of interest from the players and support from the GM and rest of the club! We'll be adding more Palladium stuff soon, so see you on Sunday!

The Smith's Palladium Log (3) - Setting Sail
![]() |
| The harbour at Scarsdale. What a (decimated) view. |
The Smith keeps us updated weekly on the happenings in his Palladium Fantasy Campaign, currently running on Sundays at the Wargate!
This is Smith again with another update from The Dales! Our Adventures have brought us to the port town of Scarsdale. Upon arrival the party runs into an ogre pirate named Karnov. He tells them of a Warlock who destroyed his ship and was the cause of the sickness in Scarsdale. The Warlock Jareth tells them Lashan the leader (of Scarsdale) is the one responsible. The party found out the hard way pirates often lie! After some investigation (and a little revenge) the heroes find Lashan trying to flee town after a failed attempt at genocide.
After defeating Lashan the group claims Karnov's ship the Grim Tide. What will the elven Pirate LeBrac think of his ship being stolen? Karnov was Captain of the Grim Tide, but he was only part of a band of 3 pirate ships know to reside on a small island in the center of the Sea of Fallen Stars.
As we begin our next adventure our heroes make thier way back to Daggerdale to report to Randal Morn. Mango and Blackfeet are grateful for the antidotes, and have decided to return to properly thank the leader of the dales. Now word of thier deeds is spreading to Featherdale, Battledale, and further north. The people of the dales rejoice as heroes emerge from this time of chaos. The group has also made some enemies as the evil plans of Lashan, Zhentarim, and the Warkingz have been thwarted.
Join us again Sunday June 5th as we continue the adventure. The party comes home ready for thier next mission and to face what lies ahead. I will be making General Tso's Chicken, Fried Rice and maybe some homeade won-tons. Thank you to the Wargate and all the adventurers in the Palladium FRPG summer game.
Thanks to the Smith for keeping us updated! The weekly updates are great reminders right before we jump back in, and the menu as always is going to be top notch! We have some other interesting things planned for this Sunday, including the Awards Ceremony for Velkommen Zu Wissenland!
Make sure to be there if you plan to take part in Brave New Waaagh! as we begin the first campaign round tomorrow evening! See you at the 'gate!

The Smith's Palladium Log, Part Deux
The Smith is keeping a good log of the Palladium adventures, and is taking advantage of our blogspace here on the interweb! He sent me a new passage to keep everyone updated on the happenings in the Dalelands!
Smith here with a word about this weeks Palladium FRPG!
We had a great time and everyone seems to be doing great playing in character and stopping any threats present in the dales. We all enjoyed food, drink and a great evening of high adventure.
This week our party made their way through Mistledale and the Dun Hills to arrive at a ruined temple to Tempus. The party found a dwarven town called Glen. The dwarves seemed happy to see travellers and treated the party well. They were bogged down at the crossroads by Senli, (a Druegar Mercenary Warrior) and his companion Thaum, a Drow Thief. It appears the enemy has placed a price on our heroes heads.
On the way to Battledale they found carnage at the temple of Chautea the Grainmother. A Zhentarim Palladin named Orskeli was intent on stealing the temples prize Chocobos. The party defeated Orskeli and rescued the Chocobos. The group was able to find their way through the wilderness and the Dun Hills of Battledale. After seeing the temple in ruins at the hands of the WarKingz the party felt obligated to make a large donation to improve the temple and it's defenses.
Next week our adventurers hop a ferry to Scarsdale and hopes bring some relief with a new batch of antidotes courtesy of Randal Morn. Thank you to everyone involved with my adventure. I feel more and more rust breaking off this old GM. I will be making barbacoa tacos next week and hope everyone can make it for another adventure in the Forgotten Realms.
Barbacoa Tacos??? Sounds awesome - all the other dinners have been! Come early Sunday if you have games to fight in Wissenland, as the Spring campaign will be over on June 1st!

And the Palladium Rages on...
The first adventure in the Dalelands was a great experience. Our heroes cut through the challenges that lay before them like a ripe melon. The port town of Scarsdale was befallen by a great sickness that has claimed many lives. The party tracked a group of thieves carrying the antidote that was waylayed by the fearsome WarKings orc tribe.
Mango Jones got major props for playing in character, using good judgement, and providing much needed food and entertainment for the party. (Mango Jones is a Pirate from the Sea of Fallen Stars.)
Francis used his knowledge of poisons to incapacitate several enemies without killing them and used quick thinking to help the party. (Black Frank is an Assassin from Daggerdale.)
Sir Borstch proved his knighthood and calvary skills by slaying several enemies in one charge on his mighty chocobo. (Sir Borscht is a Chocobo Knight from Daggerdale. That's right. Chocobo.)
Verigo used magic to help the party avoid the notorious Skull King that terrorizes the Dales and his deductive reasoning and insight was great to have. (Verigo is a mysterious Wizard from the Dales who has fought with the men of Daggerdale before.)
Sigmund showed heroic levels of bravery in the battle with the Orc Shaman and his use of skills and marksmanship aided throughout the adventure. (Sigmund the Longbowman is a stalwart soldier of Daggerdale.)
Mcnutt surprised everyone by incorporating fire magic with martial arts to have devestating effects on the enemies. (McNutt (not to be confused with BigNutt McNutt is a traveling Warlock with a spear.)
Bob was crucial to saving Martino's soul as well as closing the rift making total success of the mission possible and cooking the fine racoons Mango snared. (BoB E. Light, or Dr. Light, is a Psy-Healer traveling with the party.)
Unfortunately the WarKingz destroyed the antidotes before the party could track them down.
Mango returns to Castle Daggerdale to speak with Randal Morn about getting another shipment of antidotes. The rest of the party prepares for the trip to Scarsdale. They hope to meet up with Mango's shipmates Blackfeet and Sir Gregory and try to bring some healing to this dwindling population.
Join us Sunday May 15th for our next adventure. Sticking with the mexican food theme I will be making beef burritos.
This is Smith and I hope everyone can make it and join us for high adventure and a great feast!
Fantastic coverage of the ongoing game! You better know I'll be right on top of that pan of burritos...I got so fat from the last Mr. Smith dinner I had to roll everywhere the next day.
Be sure to check out the Palladium Megaverse page for a Brief Guide to the Dales! See you Sunday!

Mr. Smith Goes to Wargate-ton!
Palladium FRPG: Upon an Oaken Throne
This is Smith and I will be taking you on an adventure in the Western Heartlands of Forgotten Realms. We begin at Castle Daggerdale where our heroes have been summoned before Members of The Harpers, Randal Morn, and Elminster himself. What drives the Zhents to their evil ends? What other forces are at work in The Dales? Throughout our adventure we will try to uncover threats and keep our homeland safe.
We made characters over the last two weeks and I believe we have a very powerful, well rounded party. Some of you will find my style different from some GM's. I want to have fun and create an enjoyable experience for everyone. Any dispute in rules that cannot be easily resolved we will come to a common agreement to continue the adventure with minimal interuptions. Everyone will have thier turn and things like good ideas - even if unsuccesful - will help you gain levels in my game. Please try to be at Dave's and ready to go by 6 P.M. Sundays. Aside from any tabletop battles that may run long I would like to start by 6:30 to 7:00 and run until 10:00 to 10:30.
Palladium is without a doubt my favorite RPG system. It has stood the test of time and is versitile and realistic. My adventures will be in depth and entertaining. It has been 10 years since I last ran an adventure and I must it's been a long time coming. Over the summer I hope you enjoy my series of fantasy adventures and look forward to a Robotech adventure to follow for the fall and winter months.
Shawn will be hosting a fajita dinner tomorrow night for everyone involved, so if you're quick you might get to them before I do. Many thanks to Mr. Smith for jamming out some adventures in the Forgotten Realms. His enthusiasm is as high as ever, and his tenure as GM promises to be filled with plenty of awesome Palladium jazz.
As for me, I'd better be going to the hospital - I'm totally OVER STOKED at the moment!
